Silk screen is the most popular logo technique of all, because it is fast, affordable and can be printed in large sizes. It is ideal for designs or logos in solid colours (with no gradient shading), and is recommended for T-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, workshop shirts, sports shirts, tote bags, aprons and caps. The result is opaque, sitting slightly raised from the garment or item, and the height of that relief can be adjusted. Silk screen does have one ironing limitation: never iron directly over the printed design, as the colour may lift and stick to the iron — always place a cloth over it before ironing.

Advantages Drawbacks
Affordable and fast Cannot reproduce gradient shading
Moderate level of detail Do not iron directly over the print
The material stretches with the fabric Costs rise when many colours are used
Prints in both small and large sizes
Silk Screen Techniques

Rubber-Ink Silk Screen

Suitable for printing on a wide range of items — T-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, workshop shirts, sports shirts, tote bags, aprons and caps — and can be screened onto both light and dark fabrics. Rubber ink is highly flexible, stretching together with the fabric as though it were part of the material itself. The ink has a glossy finish and bright, vivid colours, which is why it is such a popular choice.

Raised (Puff) Silk Screen

Puff ink suits fashion apparel such as fashion T-shirts, or any work that aims to make a design on the shirt stand out. Raised screening produces a thick, tangibly spongy surface with a three-dimensional relief, and can be combined with other types of ink — for example a flat colour as the background with puff ink emphasising the logo to make it stand out.

Pearl, Gold and Silver Silk Screen

Screen printing with pearl, gold or silver inks suits fashion T-shirts with a luxurious feel, or premium-looking T-shirts and polo shirts. Pearl is blended into the ink to give it a shimmer, making the design on your shirt more striking and playful. The ink has a slightly rough, not-too-thick surface and can be screened together with other types of ink.
